Kate McGonigle Photo Assignment No. 4


Clare Boyle, 22, a 2009 graduate of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and a current academic advisor for the College, tries to get a construction worker to unlock the door for her at the new journalism building, Knight Hall, at the University of Maryland College Park on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009. Knight Hall, which was constructed with $16 million in state funds and $14 million from private donors, replaces the original journalism building built in 1957.


Susan Frentz, 22, a 2009 graduate of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, gets excited about the Richard Eaton Broadcast Theater in Knight Hall, the new journalism building at the University of Maryland College Park. Although Frentz graduated before construction was completed on Knight Hall, she worked for the College while the building was being planned and was therefore able to get a tour of it on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, before the building opens in January.


Nick Montopoli, 20, (right) teaches Ed Galligan, 19 (left) how to use the violin bow to play "Happy Birthday" on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009. Montopoli and his friend, Brad Schachat, 20, both students at the University of Maryland College Park, play their instruments, a violin and a guitar, respectively, in the North Campus residence hall elevators at night when they have free time.
